DIY "Telestrations" Game

Have you ever played the game Telestrations? It's really fun, but I decided to customize it a little and make my own. No need to buy it - but if you want, these booklets can also be used as an add-on so that more people can play. Bonus!! :)

I made enough different patterns that you can play with up to 12 people! Of course you can always just pick one design and make them all the same. It's up to you. :)

Here's the basic idea: It's basically a mix between "Telephone" and "Pictionary". Each player plays simultaneously, passing the booklets along to the next player after each round. When the booklet gets to you, you are either going to "Sketch It" or "Guess It". When everyone gets their starting booklets back, you see how closely the end guess matches the secret beginning word. It's really funny, because everyone has their own interpretations.

You can use the cards from Pictionary, or Apples to Apples, or to make it EXTRA fun - make up your own phrases! Make sure to have a noun, a place, and a verb. For example: Elvis wake boarding in Mexico, or a nun smelling flowers in the park. Whatever.

Write that on the first page where it says: Secret Word. Pass the booklet to the player on the left. When everyone has their neighbor's booklet, read the word or sentence and start drawing on the next page - Sketch It. Everyone has 1 minute. When the time is up, pass the booklet on to the player on the left. This time when everyone gets a booklet, they look at the drawing and make their guess on the following page. (The page that says: Guess It.) Be sure to WRITE your guess and not draw it.You don't need a timer for this. When everyone is done, continue to pass to the person on the left. This time you are back to drawing what is written - make sense?

You should end each booklet on a Guess It page. This way you can match it up to the secret word and see how close, or how messed up everyone got! It really is a lot of fun. ;)

It's fun to see what everyone guessed, but if you really want to keep score, just give 1 point to the player with your favorite sketch, and 1 point to the player with your favorite guess. And give yourself 1 point if the end guess matches the original secret word or phrase. You can keep a tally on the front page of the book if you want.

Here are the different pages for the booklets. I just copied them into Microsoft Word, and shrunk them to the size I wanted. (I think they were 3.5 x 3.5 or close to it.) I got about 4 to a page. I printed them onto cardstock, cut, laminated, and punched holes to add key rings. You should be able to use regular dry erase markers on them & they wipe off really well.

Assembling the booklets:
Each booklet gets one cover page, and one Secret Word page. Then depending on how many you are making, do equal number of the Sketch It and Guess It pages.
Example: I made 12, so I needed 6 Sketch It pages and 6 Guess It pages.

This is how my booklet went:
Cover page
Secret Word page
Sketch It
Guess It
Sketch It
Guess It
Sketch It
Guess It
Sketch It
Guess It
Sketch It
Guess It
Sketch It
Guess It

Make sure you start on a Sketch It page and end on a Guess It page! That's pretty much it!

These would make great Christmas gifts! I am bringing mine to play with the whole family at Thanksgiving. (One reason I made so many.) When it's just my little family at home, I can use only 4. I love that you can customize it this way!

Let me know how these work out for you, and what you think. :)

Have fun! Thanks for stopping by!

Fun Summer Cards

I have a confession.... I hate scrapbooking! Hate it! I don't know why. I think it might be because it takes for-ev-er just to make one page, and I have mountains of pictures. Ugh!

I do however LOVE to make cards! Once you figure out your card design, you can whip up like four at once.  And they are sooo cute.

I also love summer!!

So today I thought I would just post some of the fun summer cards that I have made in the past.
My sisters and I get together and have card-making weekends, where all we do is make cards. So fun! :)

For the cones - I just scored some tan cardstock, cut it to look like a cone and sponged a bit of brown ink over it.  Then, I cut a circle with a scalloped punch, and cut off part so it looks like ice cream scoops.  The background is a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  Pretty simple.

These are flip flop cards that I made with some really great Hawaiian paper that I found.  I just made a template shaped like a flip flop and cut them out.  Then, punched holes and used ribbons for the top.

This one is a fun shaker card that kids would love.  You can find lots of tutorials online for shaker cards - they are pretty easy to make.  I filled it with sand and tiny shells.

My little sister really liked this card - me, not so much.  I don't know why - maybe it's just the lettering, I don't know. We ran the tan paper through my cuttlebug, scored it and then flipped it over so it looks kind of like a graham cracker.  Then, we used the scalloped punch for the bite marks.

I really like the colors in this popsicle card - so summery!

WARNING:  I have a bunch of lemonade cards coming up....sorry - I was obviously on a lemonade kick one day! haha :)

This is just a pocket card.  I made some of these for hot cocoa in the winter.  I don't even know if you can still buy lemonade packets like this anymore.  It would be cute to put a bunch of those individual water bottle flavor packets in a pocket card, too.

This is a matchbox card - basically it just folds the opposite way a normal card does, and you use a staple to hold it.  Super simple.

Here is the inside.

This last one is a lip gloss card that I made for my Activity Day girls a couple years ago. (I can't believe I still had one left!) haha
You can't see it very well, but there are tiny clear beads along the rim of the glass.  The colors are fun, too.
The inside holds a lip gloss!  You can also search for lip gloss card tutorials - I'm sure they are all over the place. :)

Well, that's it for now.  Have a fun summer!! :)

Golf Ball Seeds

I found this cute poem a couple years ago:

You say you've lost too many balls,
The course is just too tough?
Just plant these little golf ball seeds,
And soon you'll have enough!

I thought it was so perfect for both my husband and my father-in-law, so I made up this little printable with the poem on one side and golf equipment on the other.  It doesn't specifically say "Father's Day" on it, so you could use it for a birthday or whatever you wanted.

I had a hard time coming up with the actual 'seeds'.  I wanted something round, but I gave up and went with these yogurt-covered peanuts.  I thought about mini marshmallows or white chocolate chips, and if someone has a peanut allergy, you could also get the yogurt-covered raisins.  Mints would also work pretty well, or just go with sunflower seeds! Haha

You can download the card here.

(I could only fit 2 on a page - I'm not the best at this stuff.)  Just print onto cardstock and fold in half.  I got the little treat bags at Walmart in the party section - I use them a LOT.

Well, I hope you like them!

Mother's Day Flower Pot Card

Okay, so I was going to do this whole Mother's Day gift idea post - but I have been super busy lately, and just ran out of time.

I helped the Young Women in our church make these cute flower pot cards for Mother's Day, so I thought I would at least share these. :)

You could make these in so many cute ways with any paper or colors.  They are pretty easy to make and look so adorable.

You can find a tutorial here.  Hopefully, it will take you there, you might have to register to view the page, but it's free and totally worth it.  I love this site for cute card ideas.

Have fun!

Easter Goodie Boxes

Okay, so here are some Easter goodie boxes that you could use really for any occasion.  They are super easy to make, too!

Here is the carrot.  These ribbons are actually a gorgeous green color. :)  I stamped white flowers and butterflies on the cardstock, but it would be really cute to use some orange patterned paper too, like polka dots - I love polka dots! The little tag says "happy spring".  Again, you could do whatever you wanted.

Download Carrot PDF

Here is the little basket.  I seriously whipped this one up like 5 minutes before I took the picture.  I cut out the template and then placed it over my cardstock, cut that out, scored it, folded it, and punched a cute little flower brad through it to hold it together.  Then, for the paper (you could use Easter grass) I picked a matching color, sent it through a paper crimper, and then through my office shredder.  How easy is that?

I didn't have any Easter candy on hand (I might have to remedy that very soon), but wouldn't Cadbury Eggs be the best in that basket??  Yummy! My favorite! :D

Well, hope you like these!  Thanks for stopping by!

Goodie Boxes

I was looking through my card boxes the other day, and I came across these cute little goodie boxes I made a few years ago, so I thought I would share them with you.

The first one is a "milk carton" box, that I stamped on, and added ribbons to.  Fill these with treats, and you have cute, homemade Valentines.
When I gave these out for class treats, I actually just folded the template in the middle, so they were shorter. (More like the short ones they give out for lunches.)  You fold it all up, punch a hole in the top and close it with ribbons.

Super easy! And you can do any color, for any reason!

The next one is a little purse card, that I actually made for my mom's birthday, but I thought it would be cute for Valentine's Day, too.

Aren't they cute?? They are the perfect size for a pack of gum or a flat candy bar. (Long ones like Snickers don't fit - bummer!)

I attached the flaps closed with a little magnet.  It makes me think of a real purse. I love purses! :)

Then it folds down, so you can write a little message inside.

These are actually pretty easy to make, just hard to describe.

Download the template, cut out your purse color (mine was brown) and score it where the lines are. I would have just listed the measurements, but they were really odd, so I just traced where I folded.

Fold it into a box, and you will probably see how it will come together. There will be a complete box, and then an extra flap - that flap will point up. (you fold it down to see the inside of the "card".)

Cut out a circle in patterned paper the same width as the purse, and glue it to where your top will be, then glue the back of the circle down as well. (Try out your circle before you glue to make sure it fits.)

Attach a little strip of ribbon with brads for the handle.  Cut a little square of paper for the message and glue it on the front.  Fold the flap up and attach magnet pieces.

Slide your candy inside - and there you go!

Like I said - hard to describe. Anyway, if you want, you can download my horrible hand-made templates here.
